GEMOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION UNIVERSITY OF MORATUWA
The Gemological Association University of Moratuwa is a national entity of gemologists centered on the past pupils of the certificate course in Gemology at the University of Moratuwa.
This is the oldest gemology course established in Sri Lanka in the year of 1973. The GAUM started in 2004 as a student association. Since then we established as a nonprofit organization and we offer memberships to professionals in the field of Gemology.
Annually publishing a journal to encourage members to record their field experience and to upgrade the knowledge and encourage the awareness of the public further gem enthusiast regarding gem and jewelry industry.
OFFICERS & COUNCIL MEMBERS
The Board & Council members of the Association are professionals who work among the gemstone, jewelry, and associated trades. Encompass of experts from gem dealers, jewelers to teaching, education, and training professionals, GAUM s Board represents the diverse range of services we offer to the industry.
The job of the board is to support our Chairmen in the running of the Association, whilst guiding the long-term strategic plan of GAUM. You can find out a little more about our Board Members and our Council below.
PATRON
PROF. DARMARATHNE P.G.R.
Senior Professor in the Department of Earth Resources Engineering University Of Moratuwa Sri Lanka since 1983. Obtained B.Sc. Engineering with a First Class Honors in 1974 from the University of Moratuwa. He also obtained MSc (Rock Mechanics) from the University of New Castles UK in 1980 and finished his Ph.D. from the University of Leeds in 1983.Obtained Diplomas in Gemology & Diamond grading from German Gemological Association in 1991. Also completed Diploma in Gemology from Gemological Association of Great Britain with distinction in 1992.
