INTRODUCTON

The Department of Earth Resources Engineering, University of Moratuwa has been successfully conducting a certificate-level course since 1973 to train persons in Gemology. The course provides appropriate academic qualifications and skills to people who wish to engage in the fields of Gemology and for those who are already employed in these fields to whom this is an opportunity to advance their careers. At the request of past students, the relevant trading organizations, and government institutes, the Department has now decided to commence Diploma Courses in Gemology. Since the Certificate Courses are conducted by one of the leading universities in Sri Lanka with qualified academic staff and with a well-constituted course curriculum, it is comparable with reputed international Certificate courses.

Department of Earth Resources Engineering of Moratuwa University conducts two part-time courses. (a) Certificate of Gemology (b) Certificate of Geology. The major objectives of the courses are to train the persons who are in the Gemology field, Geology Field or related fields and those who are willing to enter such fields. These courses provide academic qualifications and skills to engage in the field of Gemology and Geology for those who are already employed in these filed to advance their careers. Gemology certificate & Gemology Diploma holders are can obtain membership of Gemologists Association of Sri Lanka (M.G.A) and Gemological Association of the University of Moratuwa. (G.A.U.M.)
